If you’re the kind of person who loves getting your holiday shopping done early, getting great deals, and then just kicking back to enjoy the season, you’ll be glad to know that Canadians looking for great Black Friday deals don’t have to wait until November 27! In fact, most retailers are taking the concept a bit further, offering deep discounts all month long.

Where are the best deals? Everywhere. Of course you can expect your mailbox to be stuffed with flyers, and there’s no doubt that you can get terrific bargains by going to the mall, but keep in mind that most retailers also offer on-line only deals that can save you a ton of money. And of course there are online-only stores like Amazon and Newegg. So if your idea of the ultimate shopping experience is sitting in your jammies, sipping wine and finding the perfect gift for everyone on your list, read on.
Big Box Stores Online
If you’re missing Target since they closed their Canadian stores, you don’t have to give up just yet! You can shop at the Target International website. They’re already offering daily deals. Just as an example, on November 16, if you bought one item from clothing, shoes or accessories, you could get your second item of equal or lower value for half price, and even save an extra 10% if you typed in a promo code. And every day, you can take $20 off any order over $100. You can check out the daily deals and others at http://intl.target.com/.
There is a caveat, though… shipping costs to Canada are high. According to a CBC News report, sometimes shipping costs can actually be even more than the price of the item. Just to offer a couple of examples, a Star Wars blanket was priced at $28.94, but the shipping was $30.98, and a Mossimo dress was $34.05 with shipping at $31.46.
Savvy shoppers can take heart, though – there’s a workaround. Practically everyone has a friend or relative living in the United States. If you have your US contact order the item for you from the US site, they’ll get free shipping. Then just have them forward the package to you and reimburse them for far more reasonable shipping costs to Canada.
We also love Walmart for great deals – who doesn’t? You’ll find, though, that Walmart plays its cards really close – right now, they’re not advertising any Black Friday deals. But with their regularly advertised items and their regular rollbacks, you’re always guaranteed a good deal on something from every department. We do suggest checking their in-store flyers, though, with sale prices running from Thursday of any given week to Wednesday of the following week.
Keep in mind, too, that if previous years are any indication, Walmart Black Friday ads usually end up getting leaked. So far we’ve seen leaked Walmart US ads, but none for Canada. Stay tuned, though – you know how hard it is to keep a secret!
Great Eleggtronics from Newegg!
Sorry, we just couldn’t resist… If you’re looking for just the right gift for the techie on your list, you absolutely have to check out Newegg. They’re online only, and they’re promising amazing deals on 900+ products all month long – in fact, forget Black Friday. Newegg has revolutionized holiday shopping, and it’s Black November! The daily deals began November 1, and are nothing short of astounding – Newegg is offering right now an Asus widescreen monitor, regular $319.99, for just $99.99 here. That’s a savings of 69%! You’ll definitely want to check in every day for the incredible daily deals. They also offer a premier package, starting at $24.99 that gets you free shipping and returns. Visit their website at promotions.newegg.ca to see these and other deals.
You know that you’ll always get a great deal at Amazon. You can shop what’s new and trendy for 2015, but you can also benefit from huge deals on discontinued and hard-to-find items. Whether you’re looking for electronics, personal care items, books, DVDS or just about anything else your heart (or the heart of someone on your gift list) desires, you’ll find it. And if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can get extra benefits like access to lightning deals, 2-day shipping, and free shipping on a huge array of items. If you’re one of those people who leaves your shopping to the last minute (oh, not YOU, surely!) the 2-day shipping can be a real life-saver at this time of year.
Now, about the deals – there are new ones every day! On November 16, we were totally blown away by a huge 60% discount on selected FurReal Friends. And if you love Frasier, Niles, Eddie and the rest of the gang, you’ll be sorry you missed out on the entire series of Frasier for just $49.99 as opposed to the regular list price of $135.99 – a 63% discount! You’ll definitely want to check in at Amazon every day this month, as their Countdown to Black Friday continues at http://www.amazon.ca/. They’re not telling us what they have planned for November 27, but you can bet it will be Amazon amazing!
